Custom surface projection mapping
Process
This simple yet impactful project was created with the help of my friend Peter Wang who created the square shapes we used. The graphics were created by me using Touchdesigner. Later on, we used Madmapper to map the video on the surface.
The network
This animation was created using a Reaction Diffusion system. I used the base model proposed by artist Ben Heim.
It basically consists of a Feedback loop that happens over the source Noise TOP. In its main structure, we have two Blurs subtracting each other, followed by a Level TOP that allows us to see the Reaction Diffusion patterns.
I achieved the this final result by adding multiple Displacement TOPs. Some use a Noise TOP as the displacement input, others use the system to displace itself.
Conclusion
This was the first time I had to map a projection on a more elaborate surface.
I'm pleased with the final result. It was just great to work with a friend of mine and also learn more about Reaction Diffusion inside of Touchdesigner.
