Intro
CoMotion is a student ran event organized by the SCAD motion graphics club, MOME Love. Every year, students for a "branding team" to create the visual identity of the event. Considering that many big companies in the motion graphics industry participate in these yearly events, it was an honor for me to be selected to participate in the 2024 branding team.
I joined as a member of the epxeriential design section of the team. In collaboration with other amazing artists we created a total of 3 installations for the event. You can check them below!
Interactive projection
This interactive installation was created in Touchdesigner using the particlesGPU componet. The idea is that guests could use a MIDI controller hooked up to my computer to control different parameters of the particle emitter, causing the overall shape of the projection to change.
Auditorium projection
One of the highlights of every CoMotion is the title sequence produced by the branding team. It showcases the overall atmosphere of the years theme, as well as indicating all the companies participating in the event. The director's vision was to have the main title sequence being played at the center, and at its sides, projections of a blurred version of the video. The file itself was created by artist Hannah Ford, and the projection setup was made by me and artists Jinkyu Kang
In order to get the vertical panels of the auditorium completely covered with light, we had to craft stands that would keep the projectors safely positioned on a vertical orientation. Below you can see pictures of the setup.
Museum Courtyard Projection
On the last night of the event, the branding team directors wanted to have a large scale projection on the outside wall of the SCAD Museum of Arts (Building where the event was taking place). I had the pleasure to assist my dear friend Jinkyu Kang to setup 4 projetors to create this massive projetion! Video created by Jinkyu.
